How it works

The calculator multiplies the hourly rate by the hours you work in a year. Hours per year are hours per week times weeks per year; a standard full-time year is 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours.

  • Annual = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year
  • Weekly = hourly rate × hours per week
  • Daily = weekly ÷ days per week
  • Biweekly = weekly × 2
  • Semi-monthly = annual ÷ 24
  • Monthly = annual ÷ 12

All figures are gross pay, before federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state tax and any deductions, and they leave out overtime. The hourly paycheck calculator shows the after-tax amount; the overtime calculator adds hours over 40.

Worked example

At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, the year has 2,080 paid hours. $25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year.

That is $1,000 a week, $200 a day over five days, $2,000 biweekly, $2,166.67 semi-monthly and $4,333.33 a month.

At 30 hours a week for the same 52 weeks (1,560 hours), $25 an hour is $39,000 a year.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to an annual salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week, then by weeks per year. For a 40-hour week and 52 weeks, that is the hourly rate times 2,080.

How much is $20 an hour per year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour is $41,600 a year before tax.

Is there a quick way to estimate salary from an hourly rate?

Doubling the hourly rate and reading it in thousands gives a rough annual figure for a full-time year: $25 an hour is roughly $50,000. The exact figure at 2,080 hours is $52,000.

What is the hourly to salary chart?

It lists common hourly rates with their weekly, biweekly, monthly and annual equivalents at 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year. The figures are gross pay before tax.

Does the annual figure include overtime or taxes?

No. It covers regular hours only, before tax. The overtime calculator adds time-and-a-half pay, and the hourly paycheck calculator subtracts taxes.
