How it works

The calculator divides the annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. Hours per year are hours per week times weeks per year; a standard full-time year is 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours.

  • Hourly = salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year)
  • Weekly = salary ÷ weeks per year
  • Daily = weekly ÷ days per week
  • Biweekly = weekly × 2
  • Semi-monthly = salary ÷ 24
  • Monthly = salary ÷ 12

All figures are gross pay, before federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state tax and any deductions. The paycheck calculator shows the same salary after tax, with its tax year and sources under the result.

Worked example

A salary of $60,000 at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours a year. $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour.

The same salary is $1,153.85 a week ($60,000 ÷ 52), $230.77 a day over five days, $2,307.69 biweekly, $2,500 semi-monthly and $5,000 a month.

If the job has two weeks of unpaid leave, set weeks per year to 50: that is 2,000 hours, and $60,000 ÷ 2,000 = $30.00 an hour. At 37.5 hours a week for 52 weeks (1,950 hours), the hourly figure is $30.77.
